OK, back to WHY. The registry operates as the central control for the computer’s processor. All the setting, defaults, configurations, etc. are in this storage area. The problem is that it will accumulate a lot of junk as time goes by and simply slow computer speed. This best way to understand this is to look at an actual scan of a PC with performance issues:

Although this is an easy download and scan there are some differences in the procedures depending on which operating system you have - XP, Vista or Win7.

First click on the orange Free Download button (picture at left) and you should have a computer box pop up that will ask to “Save” or “Run” or maybe just “Save”. You will need to SAVE it. This concerns to a lot of people and that is understandable… but it’s OK, this is safe.. Next the program will download onto your computer. On some operating systems it will not open on its own and you will have to open it from the Download box.

Some of the download boxes will have a “run” for you to click.. others (pic left) you will need to double click on the PC Cleaner name.

Before it will open on some computers you will be asked by the Account Control if it is OK to continue… click “Continue”. Next you need to accept the License Agreement, with a check, and then click that the location where the file to be placed is OK.. the recommended C/Programs/ErrorFix is good (only 38 MB)… and then and “Install”.

After the installation is complete you should click on Finish. The PC Cleaner program is loaded and is ready to do the scan. It will ask you to let it do a complete scan because this the first time it has performed the scan on your computer. Click “Yes”. You will be able to make changes later.

This scan was done on a PC that needed help with operational issues and these are the actual results that the registry cleaning program found. Even as bad as this looks, I've had some much worse.
